  • Fasting is not required.

  • Bring a list of current medications and any recent antibiotic use.

  • Let your provider know if you’ve had recent exposure or symptoms (even if mild).

  • If applicable, share timing of last sexual contact for accurate interpretation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I think I was exposed to an STI. How soon should I get tested?
A: Don’t wait — it’s always best to get tested as soon as possible after a potential exposure.
Some infections show up right away, while others take a little longer to become detectable. At your visit, we’ll test for what can be seen immediately and plan follow-up testing if needed.

Typical detection windows:

  • Chlamydia & Gonorrhea: usually detected within 5–7 days

  • Syphilis: typically detectable 3–6 weeks after exposure

  • HIV (4th generation test): reliable at 2–4 weeks, confirm at 3 months

  • Hepatitis B & C: usually detectable 3–6 weeks

⚕️ If you’re unsure when exposure occurred — come in now. Early evaluation helps protect you and your partners, and we’ll guide your next steps with clarity and compassion.

Q: I don’t have any symptoms. Do I still need to be tested?
A: Yes. Most STIs are asymptomatic, meaning you may not have any signs but could still transmit an infection. Routine screening is an important part of maintaining sexual health — even when you feel fine.

Q: Can I get tested after taking antibiotics?
A: Some antibiotics can affect test results. Let us know what you’ve taken and when — we’ll decide whether to test now or schedule a repeat at the right time.

Q: Will anyone find out about my results?
A: Your results are kept private and protected under HIPAA. However, as a healthcare provider, Mercure Concierge is required by law to report certain communicable infections — such as HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hepatitis — to the local health department for public health tracking.
These reports are confidential and never shared with employers, family, or partners. They simply help ensure appropriate community health support and follow-up.

🩺 We take your privacy seriously — your care is always handled with professionalism and discretion.

Q: What happens if I test positive?
A: We’ll contact you right away, provide treatment, and support you with partner notification resources if needed. You’ll never be left guessing — we’re here to guide you through every step of care and follow-up.

Q: Can I be tested for everything at once?
A: Yes. Our full STI screening panel checks for the most common and clinically relevant infections in a single visit, tailored to your risk factors and needs.

Q: How often should I be screened?
A: At least once a year is recommended for anyone sexually active. Patients with new or multiple partners, or higher exposure risk, may benefit from testing every 3–6 months.

Q: Can I get tested during my period?
A: Yes. Most STI tests — including blood and urine — can be done at any time in your cycle. If a vaginal swab is part of your testing, we may reschedule for clarity or comfort.

Q: Can I get PrEP or PEP through Mercure Concierge if I’m at risk for HIV?
A: Yes. We offer both PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for ongoing protection and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) for recent exposure.
If you believe you’ve been exposed to HIV within the past 72 hours, contact us immediately for a same-day appointment.

Q: Will insurance cover STI testing?
A: Many tests are covered, but not all. We’ll review coverage and direct-pay options with you before ordering so you have clear expectations and no surprises.

💬 If you think you’ve been exposed, or you just want peace of mind — come in. There’s no judgment, just care, clarity, and support.
